The Quilt is queen sized, machine pieced and quilted all over in the "Baptist Fan" quilt design. Cotton fabrics in an assortment of fruits and vegetables (pears and blackberries on the back) with a lightweight, yet warm, bamboo cotton batting inside. Hand sewn binding by the women and girls of St. Peter's Episcopal Church Bennington, VT. Designed and sewn by Carolyn D'Agostino, based on the traditional Amish design "Sunshine and Shadow."

Food and Fuel Fund & Free Clinic

The Bennington Food and Fuel Fund has existed since 1973 when it was formed in response to the first international oil embargo. Local clergy noted that families in the community were having difficulty making ends meet in the face of rising gasoline and heating fuel prices and they banded together to help out. Efforts to help persisted for several decades beyond that initial crisis and in 2001, the organization incorporated and sought IRS 501 (c)( 3 ), not-for-profit status. The organizational mission at that time was to provide emergency support for food, fuel, utility expenses, clothing, and shelter for needy individuals and families in the Bennington area. That support continues today.

Each month, the Interfaith Community Services Food and Fuel Fund receives telephone calls from people in financial crisis. Many of the people who call are then connected with other organizations for help. Others participate in counseling on topics ranging from budgeting and nutrition to suggestions on how to reduce home energy consumption. Between 30 and 50 families receive financial support from ICS each month. Membership in a faith community is not required to receive help; nor is there a requirement to participate in or receive information from either the Interfaith Council or any individual faith community about matters of religion. Services are provided regardless of race, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. ICS raises over $50,000 annually in Bennington County and returns this money to the community as direct assistance to persons in need.
